MSNBC and CNN writers and experts continue to blame former President Donald Trump’s anti-Asian racism and rhetoric for the deadly shooting in Atlanta, despite law enforcement indicating that they do not believe the killer was motivated by racial animus not.
According to police, the suspect Robert Aaron Long took ‘responsibility’ for the series of shootings that killed eight people, including six Asian-American women, at a series of massage parlors, but it turned out to be with a sexual addiction.
The mainstream media, however, relentlessly focused on the race of the majority of the victims and linked it to Trump. MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panel, Mike Barnicle, said on Thursday that Trump had caused a surge in nationwide anger that contributed to the violence.

“We’re still living it … Donald Trump did not pull the trigger in Atlanta, but Donald Trump was certainly responsible for the anger and fear and suspicion that exist in this country to a great extent, much more than ever before, ‘Barnicle said. “He is not to blame for a history of racial strife in this country, but he is certainly to blame for improving it.”
On the same program, Representative Judy Chu, D-California, said “this day would come” because of Trump.
“Our hearts are still broken over the murder of eight people in Georgia. Eight of them are in these Asian spa establishments and six of them are immigrant Asian women. But actually this day is coming. Because it’s been a whole year of ugly rhetoric was by Donald Trump, who used the word ‘China virus’,’ Wuhan virus’ and even ‘Kung flu’ to describe Covid-19, ‘she said.
CNN writer Stephen Collinson, in a headline ‘White supremacy and hate are haunting Asian Americans’, writes that it is ‘unimportant’ whether the accused killer admits he has a racist motivation. One section of the analysis asked, “How much is Trump to blame?”
“Many Asian Americans feel exposed to an avalanche of dangerous and race-driven rhetoric by national figures on a cultural crusade. Most importantly, including former President Donald Trump, who presides over four years of increasing racial tension and often uses division as an instrument of personal power, ”he wrote.

CNN’s Lisa Ling compared the atmosphere for Asians to how Muslims felt in the days following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“There is real fear among Asians to go outside their own homes now,” she said on Wednesday. “Asian people are being made scapegoats like this century in this country and it must stop … Yesterday it was Muslims and Southeast Asian people after 9/11. If there is an economic downturn, it is the Latin people.”
Numerous stores have also printed stories about hatred against Asian Americans, which has increased in recent years, in the wake of the killings in Atlanta. These include the New York Times, TIME and Vox.
