‘Mrs. The director of Doubtfire confirms the existence of an R rating of the film of Robin Williams

The director of ‘Mrs. Doubtfire ‘, Chris Columbus, has spoken out following rumors that there are several cuts from the film, including films with much higher ratings.

The film by Robin Williams was released in 1993 with a PG-13 rating. The story follows a divorced actor who disguises himself as a female housekeeper to spend more time with his children, living mainly with his ex-wife.

On Thursday, a tweet from a film factoid report went viral, claiming that “While filming ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ (1993), Robin Williams improvises so much that there were PG, PG-13, R and NC-17 clips of the film. “

Columbus has now confirmed that there is an R-rate but an NC-17 cut.

“The reality is that there was an agreement between Robin and myself, that is, he would do one or two, three text recordings. And then he would say, ‘Let me play then.’ And we would basically take between 15 and 22, I think 22 is the most I remember, ‘he told Entertainment Weekly when he shot the film.

The renowned comedian would devise brand new lines for every improvised take, the filmmaker revealed.

“He would sometimes enter the area that would not be suitable for a PG-13 film, but definitely appropriate and hilarious for an R-rated film,” Columbus explained. ‘I do not [previously] use the phrase NC-17 as a joke. ‘

He added: “There can be no NC-17 version of the film.”

Although it is unclear if there is also a PG version, Columbus revealed that there are ‘three or four versions of the film’.

However, he is not very keen on the idea of releasing the different tracks.

“I would be open to maybe doing a documentary about the making of the film, and to enable people to see certain scenes that were rendered in an R version,” he says. “The problem is that I can not remember most of it. I only know at the moment what is in the film, because it was long. But I remember that it was extraordinarily funny material.”
