Europe’s largest active volcano, the Etna on Sicily, has become very active over the past three weeks. On Wednesday, the volcano erupted for the eleventh time in less than a month.

Wednesday’s eruption early in the morning caused rocks and lava to spew out into the dark sky, creating a large river of lava that fell along the slopes of the volcano. According to local reports, the eruption took place around 04:30 in the southeastern crater

Photos above show the spectacular lava fountains of Etna’s most recent eruption, as well as the eruptions that have taken place since mid-February.
