Moto G Series gets 2021 refresh with new designs, specifications

The long and popular Moto G series got a soft recharge in 2020 with the Moto G Stylus and Moto G Power, and now Motorola is debuting a quartet of new Moto G phones for 2021 which will all be launched on January 14th. Here’s what you need to know.

Moto G Stylus (2021)

Last year’s most exciting Moto G was the Moto G Stylus, and the 2021 refresh is a marginal upgrade. The overall look looks a lot like a large screen and a hole camera, but at the back the fingerprint sensor is gone and the camera module has also been updated.

On the spec page, Moto G Stylus 2021 offers the updated Snapdragon 678, a chip that is still ‘only’ capable of 4G LTE as well as 4 GB RAM, 128 GB storage (with microSD), a 6.8-inch LCD 1080p screen and a 4000 mAh battery. The phone offers 10W charging via USB-C but does not yet have NFC support. As for cameras, there is a primary camera of 48MP, an ultra-large, 2MP macro of 8MP, and the selfie shooter is 16MP.

In terms of software, the same features are found here, without any notable additions, although the phone starts with Android 10 instead of 11. The phone is promised to get Android 11 (just like the rest of these versions), but no one knows further than that point with Moto’s poor record.

The only notable changes to this phone except for the upgraded processor are the fingerprint sensor, which is now integrated in the on / off button instead of on the back, as well as the stylus itself. It’s still a ‘stupid’ stylus, but Motorola has applied a click mechanism like the Galaxy Note series that makes it easier to remove the pen from its silo.

Moto G Stylus 2021 costs $ 299.

Moto G Power (2021)

Another sequel to last year’s series is the Moto G Power, and this is again a fairly minor update. The phone has an updated Snapdragon 662 processor, 3 GB or 4 GB RAM, 32 GB or 64 GB storage and a 6.6-inch 720p LCD screen. There is no NFC, but there is a microSD slot. True to its name, there is also a 5,000 mAh battery that charges up to 10W.

In front of the camera there is a 48MP primary camera, 2MP depth shooter, 2MP macro shooter and an 8MP selfie camera that is inside a hole on the LCD. Like the Moto G Stylus, it also uses a fingerprint sensor on the side and comes shipped with Android 10.

Moto G Power 2021 starts at $ 199.

Moto G Play (2021)

The cheapest device on the list this year is a revival of the Moto G Play. The $ 169 phone uses the Snapdragon 460 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage (with microSD), has a 5,000 mAh battery and a tear-jerk 5MP camera that penetrates its 6.5-inch 720p screen. The phone also comes with Android 10 and has a 13MP primary camera and 2MP depth camera on the back.

Moto One 5G Ace

Perhaps the most exciting device in this series is the Moto One 5G Ace, Motorola’s answer to Pixel 4a and OnePlus Nord. Under the hood is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 750G processor that enables 5G connectivity and performance that destroys everything else the company announces today, but actually lags behind in other phones in this price range.

The Moto One 5G Ace also offers 4/6 GB RAM, 64/128 GB storage with microSD, a 5,000 mAh battery, a 6.7-inch 1080p LCD screen, and it’s the only version here with NFC. This phone will be shipped again with Android 10 and no promises of future updates as well as four cameras in total. At the back is a 48MP primary, 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro. At the front is a 16MP selfie shooter in a centered hole punch.

Moto One 5G Ace costs $ 399 for the 6 / 128GB model and will work in the US on T-Mobile’s 5G network, and Verizon support will come later.

This device as well as the others will be sold wide open, as well as to carriers including: AT&T, Cricket, Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular, Google Fi, Metro at T-Mobile, T-Mobile, Republic Wireless, Verizon and Xfinity Mobile. .
