Motive unknown after 8 killed in Indianapolis FedEx plant

A 19-year-old gunman opened fire on a FedEx facility in Indianapolis late Thursday night, killing eight people before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police have identified the suspect as Brandon Scott Hole, a former FedEx employee.

The FBI searched his home Friday for clues, but there was no motive. Last year, law enforcement officers seized a Hole shotgun after his mother said he was possibly trying to kill by police, officials said.

The eight victims who died were all employees of the company, FedEx said. Hole was last employed by the company in 2020, says Craig McCartt, the deputy chief of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

The gunman carried out the rampage with a gun, McCartt said, adding that he did not know if the gunman obtained it illegally.

Witnesses told investigators the riot began shortly after the gunman arrived at the plant near Indianapolis airport, McCartt said.

“He got out of his car and quickly started shooting outside the facility,” McCartt said. “There was no confrontation with anyone who was there. There was no disturbance. There was no argument. It looks like he started shooting randomly, and it started in the parking lot.”
