This is our first look at iconic Mortal Kombat characters Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Jax, Sonya and Kano, and the debut of newcomer Cole Young. (No, not Kole Young.)
According to an official Warner Bros. story, Cole is a martial arts fighter mixed with a mysterious birthmark – one in the shape of the Mortal Kombat dragon logo. Cole is also the target of Sub-Zero, the ninja cryomancer sent by Shang Tsung from Outworld to Earthrealm – to assume – must remove the spinal cord of the MMA fighter. They will practice together while “[prepare] to stand with the Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a battle around the universe. “

One has to turn a Kano heel at some point, given everything we know about Kano.
According to a preview of Entertainment Weekly, the Mortal Kombat the film will begin in feudal Japan, with a battle between Sub-Zero / Bi-Han and Scorpion / Hanzo Hasashi, before learning their arcana-driven supernatural abilities. Things will always go bad for the rival ninja warriors from there.
