Morning Report: Colby Covington responds to UFC 258 main event: ‘It looks like a man ready to be knocked out’

Kamaru Usman, on Saturday night at UFC 258, overcame earlier problems in achieving Gilbert Burns, the best rankings, and retaining his welterweight title. It was a performance considered the best of the 170-pound champion, showcasing his ability to overcome adversity and his championship spirit. But for rival Colby Covington, it was just weakness.

“I think it looks like a man who is really prepared for his next fight, and I want to be the one who will deliver it,” Covington said. Presentation radio. “He looks a little skinny. Dilbert, he’s a big m * dget, man, he’s a 155-er knocked out by 155-ers. The guy is nothing, and that guy came out and dropped you and almost finished you off in the first round? You happily came out of it that he fell on his back and just sat there for five minutes and let you recover. In addition, I did not see anything special. I see a man who has gotten worse. He has changed camps and he looks like another fighter in the worst way. He seems to have slowed down in his progress. So he looks like a man I want to expose to the world, and I want to show them Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington 2.0. ‘

Usman and Covington, of course, have a history together. Both men made their appearance at the same time through the welterweight ranks, and although Covington initially got the first title shot at then-champion Tyron Woodley, he could not agree with the UFC and instead gave Usman the shot. Usman won the belt and then defended against Covington for his first defense and knocked out ‘Chaos’ in the fifth round of a back-and-forth battle. It is a loss that Covington is contesting, by mentioning the strike early and saying he wants a second blow at ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

“Marty Fakenewsman, he was happy when he first fought,” Covington said. “I beat him three to one. Next time we fight, I should not be poisoned before the fight. In the fight I’m not going to have Marc Goddard to save him and stop the momentum in the fight if I kick him in the liver and they call it a nut shot. It changed the whole momentum of the fight, man. And he had several breaks in the fight to catch his wind and to regroup and such. And it was an early stop. I won the battle three against one. I want my rematch with Marty. Jorge ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal forfeited the welterweight tournament, it’s just me and Marty Fakenewsman left at the top of the mountain. ‘

Unfortunately for Covington, his dreams do not seem destined to come true. Over the last few months, the UFC has been working on discussing a resentment match between Covington and Jorge Masvidal, and it has been widely accepted that the winner would once again challenge for the welterweight title. However, after stopping Gilbert Burns on Saturday, Usman called for a second chance with Masvidal, saying he wanted to face “Gamebred” with a full camp instead of with six days notice. It is not surprising that Covington was not a fan.

“It’s hilarious. “Marty Fakenewsman is an overall coward,” Covington said. ‘If I had a victory over him like he had a victory over me, I would want to give it back right away. You know you did not hit me, and the fans know that night in that arena, and everyone around the world knew it was an unnecessary stop, a quarrel, and there are still many stones that have not been turned. So there are a lot of unfinished business. He only knows what presents him with the most difficult challenge, and that is me. He’s looking for an easy payday, he’s looking for the street Judas Masvidal because he knows he’s flushed out. That fight goes the same way every time, guys. ”

Whether Covington is right or not is irrelevant at this point. It looks like the wheels are already turning for a reunion between Usman and Masvidal, leaving Covington in the cold again. Instead, Dana White suggested Covington face Leon Edwards, third in the welterweight division, another match that would likely give the winner a title shot, but Covington apparently has no interest in it.

‘Leon (Edwards) did not deserve anything, boys. I’m in the Colby Covington Incorporated championship business, I’m not in the Leon Scott charity business. It’s not a charity hour, man. I fight on top of the mountain, I fight the best in the world … It’s not my fault that this child did not fight in two years. It’s not my fault this child – there are people from England fighting in the pandemic all the time, they are not afraid to fight. So I do not do charity for this man who has not fought for two years. He’s irrelevant, he’s beaten a bunch of bums and I’m not doing charity. It’s not a charity hour, it’s a f * cking championship f * cking pay-per-view hour. ‘

It looks like Colby Covington wants to fight Dana White and the UFC again.
