The number of Utahns receiving at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine now exceeds the total number of positive tests for the disease.

According to the Utah Department of Health, nearly 363,000 doses have been injected into patients – including the first and second doses. This is approximately 11,400 more than the number of cases of coronavirus reported in the state.

As of Thursday, 84,154 Utahns have been fully vaccinated after receiving both doses of the vaccine.

Utah’s coronavirus – related death toll has exceeded 1,700, with another 14 deaths. (Three of the deaths occurred before January 14 and have only recently been confirmed to be the result of COVID-19.)

In general, there was a decrease in the spread of the virus throughout the community, the state epidemiologist dr. Angela Dunn said Thursday. There are hotspots, like Summit County and south-south of Utah, so there is extra focus on contact detection and testing, she said.

“Things are looking really, really good for us in Utah,” she said, as long as people continue to follow coronavirus prevention guidelines, especially as COVID-19 variants spread.
