More than 1 million Utahns received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine

The number of new cases rises to more than 600, and two more Utahns are killed by the virus.

According to the Utah Department of Health, more than one million Utahns have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine – about 44% of the eligible population older than 16.

The total number at the end of the day Tuesday – 1,013,308 – represents about 30% of Utah’s total population. Only less than 600,000 Utahns have been fully vaccinated (with both doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine) – this is about 26% of Utahns able to get the vaccine, and about 18% of that, according to U.S. census estimates, the total population.

“This is a milestone that is worth celebrating, and we hope that this number will continue to rise as more and more Utahns choose to be vaccinated,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said in a statement. . “The speed with which we were able to vaccinate Utahns is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Utah’s public health system and our country’s vaccination partners.”

UDOH also reported that the number of new cases of COVID-19 dropped by more than 600, and that there were two more deaths.

Vaccine doses administered in the past day / total doses administered • 34,814 / 1,561,167.

Utahns fully vaccinated • 599,972.

Cases reported in the past day • 612.

Deaths reported in the past day • Two – a man aged 45-64 in Salt Lake County, and a man 65-84 in Washington County.

Tests reported in the past day • 7,246 people were tested for the first time. A total of 18,522 people were tested.

Hospitalizations reported in the past day • 149. It’s 10 from Tuesday. Of those currently admitted to the hospital, 55 are in intensive care units – seven more than Tuesday.

Percentage of positive tests • According to the original method of the state, the rate is 8.4%. This is higher than the seven-day average of 7.2%.

The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Wednesday’s rate was 3.3%, about the same as the seven-day average of 3.5%.

Total to date • 388 426 sake; 2,139 deaths; 15,675 hospitalizations; 2,244,457 people were tested.
