More Texans would vote for Matthew McConaughey over Greg Abbott for governor.

Actor Matthew McConaughey has made it clear that he is interested in running for office. And, according to a poll released Sunday, it looks like he has a chance to have the top office of his home state. In the new poll by the Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler, 45 percent of registered voters in the state said they would likely support the actor if he were elected governor. That is 12 points more than the 33 percent of voters who said they would support Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. Twenty-two percent said they would vote for someone else.

McConaughey has not yet said which political party he will join and has not yet expressed allegiance to the Democrats or the Republicans. Looking at the numbers, it seems that the Oscar-winning actor probably has a better chance of winning if he wants to act as a Democrat. While 56 percent of Republicans said they would vote for Abbott and only 30 percent for McConaughey, the pro-McConaughey camp among Democrats is 66 percent, compared to Abbott with 8 percent. Independents also prefer McConaughey over Abbott – 44 to 28 percent.

More than anything, McConaughey went to great lengths to characterize himself as a centrist, which could be a problem in the by-elections. While slightly more than half of Democratic primary voters said they wanted a progressive candidate for governor, only a quarter voted in favor of a centrist. Among Republican primary voters, only 20 percent said they want a more centrist candidate.

The poll comes weeks after McConaughey, who was born in Uvalde, Texas, said he was seriously considering running for office. “This is a real consideration,” he said in an interview last month when asked about the issue. “I’m watching now, what’s my leadership role?” he added. “Because I think I have some things to learn and share. What is my role, what is my category in my next chapter of life in which I am going now? “Earlier this month, a separate poll found that 46 percent of Americans would like to see Dwayne” The Rock “Johnson elected president. ‘Not sure our founding members would ever see a six-four, naked, tattooed, half-black, half-Samoan, tequila drinker, a truck driver, a subject with an old man at their club, but if ever would happen, it would be my honor to serve the people, ” Johnson tweeted in response to the poll.
