More infectious ‘B117’ variant of COVID-19 detected in Colorado

A more contagious strain of the coronavirus first detected in the UK has officially moved to the United States. The government of Colorado, Jared Polis, announced on Twitter on Tuesday that state health officials have found a case of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7 in a male patient in his twenties. According to a statement by Police, the patient had no travel history.

Experts told The Daily Beast last week that the variant was probably already in the United States, as it was first observed in September and the lack of travel restrictions was seen. While B.1.1.7 has been linked to an increase in cases in the south of the UK, there is still no evidence that it is more lethal or vaccine resistant.
