Good news was hard to come by in the year of the coronavirus pandemic, but with the recent approval of a third COVID-19 vaccine and a rapid vaccination effort across the country, some states appear to be making a comeback . Take Wisconsin, for example, where more people are now vaccinated against the new disease than have been infected by it, the health data shows.
As of Thursday, Wisconsin had recorded about 568,352 cases of COVID-19. But estimates from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Thursday also show that nearly 650,000 people in the Badger State received both doses of the vaccine, while more than 1 million received at least one dose.
In that context, Wisconsin’s total population is about 5.8 million.
According to state health data, the majority of vaccines were administered to residents aged 65 and older. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services noted in a tweet that 1 in 3 Wisconsinites 65 and older is vaccinated.
GENERAL INCREASE IN CHILDHOOD HEALTH ISSUES AMENDING PANDEMIA
The news comes after President Biden announced in a first speech on Thursday, even instructing all countries to ensure that all adult Americans are eligible by May 1st. The new directive comes as part of a broader strategy that includes increasing the number of vaccine sites and active duty troops supporting the vaccination effort.
So far, states have had limited eligibility, preferring high-risk individuals and front-line workers, although more states have recently expanded the field who can acquire one.
