A pack of wild monkeys broke into a house in India and snatched newborn twins – according to reports, one of the 8-day-old girls died.
The mother – identified as R. Buvaneswari (26) – told police that the monkeys broke into her home in the city of Thanjavur on Saturday by lifting roof tiles, reports The Times of India.
According to Buvaneswari, she was alone with the twins and her 5-year-old daughter while her husband, Raja, 29, a house painter, went to work, according to the report.
She claims the simulating simians stole her babies while she was in the outdoor toilet.
The mother said she stormed into the house again when she heard screams from the animals and was shocked when she found the babies missing. She was running back outside when she heard one of her babies crying and saw one of the monkeys holding the child.
Neighbors then chased the monkey and rescued the girl, but the other child was discovered to be floating dead in a ditch, reports The Times of India.
“After receiving the information about the incident, we rushed to the scene and searched for the second baby. “We finally found the baby on the moat,” police inspector S. Chandramohan told the news office.
“We sent the body for post-mortem examination to the Medical College Hospital,” he added.
However, District Forest Officer M. Ilayaraja described the incident as “rare of rare” and said the mother’s report was being investigated.
“It is very difficult for the animal to remove the tiles to get in and out through the same hole,” the officer said.
“According to the doctor’s statement, the baby observed, as well as the baby who died, had no signs of being grabbed by the animal on their bodies,” Ilayaraja continued.
‘Since they are babies, their joints can dislocate when animals like monkeys pick them up. There are no bruises or scratches or dislocation of the joints. However, we can not come to any conclusion. ”
But this is not the first time that there have been reports of monkeys attacking babies in India.
Two years ago, a monkey abducted a 16-day-old baby in the village of Talabasta. The child was later found dead at the bottom of a well.
