‘Mom’ ends after eight seasons, Allison Janney and creators respond

After eight years and eight seasons, ‘Mom’ comes to an end.

The popular series, which has been going on for a long time, appeared on CBS in September 2013 and will air its last installment on May 6th. The end of the critically acclaimed series comes just one season after the departure of star Anna Faris, who left the series to take advantage of other opportunities.

In the program follows Faris, who recovers Christy Plunkett, a single mother and an alcoholic, and decides to start her life in Napa, California again. By attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings with a estranged mother and co-recovering alcoholic Bonnie (played by Allison Janney), the mother-daughter tries to rekindle their relationship and pull their lives together.

The show received praise from fans and critics for its ability to penetrate between humor and topics such as alcoholism, drug addiction, homelessness, relapse, gambling addiction, teenage pregnancy, death and more.

Before the finale, Janney wrote down a long tribute on Instagram, thanking her role players and fans for her time in the program, noting that it was ‘one of the great honors of my life’.

“Becoming part of MOM for the past 8 years … sharing the laughter, love and hope that comes with recovery has been one of the great honors in my life,” she wrote before making a list of crew members and co-resigned. cast, including Pharisee.

“Our entire crew, your laughter and love and dedication to this show made it a joy to come to work⁣,” she continued. “And last but not least, all our extraordinary fans! Thank you for all your support over the years.”

Showmakers Chuck Lorre and Gemma Baker, along with executive producer Nick Bakay, also issued a statement on the series’ finale, referring to the opportunity to also work on ‘Mom’ as a ‘great honor’.

“For the past eight years, we have had the great honor of bringing these amazing characters to life by sharing their struggles and triumphs with millions of viewers every week,” the three said in a joint statement, according to Entertainment Tonight. ‘We decided from the beginning to tell stories about recovery from alcoholism and addiction that are rarely portrayed in a network comedy series.

“Whether it’s the emotional reactions of the live audience to tape night in phase 20, or discussions in the White House about the opioid crisis, or the personal stories we still receive on social media, we’re proud that Mom is positive. So many lives “We are forever grateful for our brilliant cast and guest stars, wonderful writers and incredible crew for joining us on this journey.”

‘Mom’ has received numerous awards and Janney has earned two consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2014 and 2015, while being nominated in 2016. She was also nominated for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Comedy Series in 2017 and 2018. In addition, the program received nominations in various categories at the People’s Choice Awards, the Critics’ Choice Television Awards and the Golden Globes.

In September, Faris, 44, announced her departure from the series to ‘pursue new opportunities’ while thanking Lorre and her co-workers in the process.

“The last seven years at Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding in my career,” Faris said in a statement at the time, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “I am so grateful to Chuck, the writers and my incredible role players for creating a wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy came to an end and I was able to take advantage of my new opportunities, I will be watching and rooting for my TV next season. -family. ‘

In a recent appearance in ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’, Janney (61) opens up about Faris’ absence and notes that it was’ very strange ‘without her.

“It was very strange,” Janney said as she returned to the set. “She is missed a lot. Anna is missed and her character in the program is missed.”

She added: “We’re just glad she’s doing what she wants to do now and we’re even happier so we can still tell these stories about these wonderful women and recovery, and I think there are wonderful characters that have been established.”
