Valheim rules. Exploring is fun, building is fun, flying trolls around islands while crying quietly to yourself while tapping on the razor’s death knell is fun. But nothing is perfect, especially not games for early access. So I do not think we need to spoil ourselves here: Valheim‘s stock sucks hole. Praise to Odin for mud.

Although the wildly popular survival game’s mod scene is very, very young, mud is gone pig bonkers with quality of life improvements. This is good because Valheimespecially the stock is limited and fine. Some of these – especially the small size of them – are deliberate, encouraging players to get together and work together on congregational bases to build items like trailers to fetch more supplies.

But other elements make no sense. For example, armor stays in your inventory, even when equipped, costs precious space and forces you to stop every five minutes and put resources into the woods to compensate. And nut you, because you can not just destroy items you do not need. It is also a pain: say you are back at your base and realize you have unnecessary resources or equipment. Litter your group’s chests, trump them away from your base and drop the items on the ground, or irritate them all by dropping items on the floor in your base (it’s me).

Fortunately, a handful of stock modes can alleviate all of these problems. First, there is the “Equipment and fast slots” mod by RandyKnapp. It gives equipped items their own separate inventory segment, and it also offers you some extra quick-fix quick-tests – useful for drinks and the like. If you’re still getting space (and you will), then the “Discard Inventory Items” mode by Aedenthorn is probably the best option. This allows you to select items and delete them permanently. Be warned: this does mean that they will disappear forever, so choose wisely.

If you want to go a little further beyond the intended limits of the game, there are also the “MoreSlots” mod by Fang86. This gives you more inventory slots, provided you do so not lose the items at death. It’s a bit of a cheat, so you may be opposed to it if you try to play pure. If you just want to bring your unconnected architectural dreams to life, though – the rest of the game is doomed – then knock yourself out.

I just scratched the surface of already available Valheim mods. If you want to improve your overall quality of life, the “Valheim Plus ”mod by NX_ is a must. It improves the build and allows players to adjust stats. If you are looking for something less practical, you can also take it the first person mod by Kailen_ for a turn. Finally, you can see Greydwarves’ horrible faces (and your overflowing stock) up close.
