Major League Baseball is the latest institution to suspend political contributions following the deadly invasion of the U.S. Capitol last week by insurgents loyal to President Donald Trump, reports Associated Press. MLB suspends political contributions from the league’s committee for political action.

The league released the following statement to the Associated Press on Wednesday:

“In light of the unprecedented events at the US Capitol last week, MLB is suspending the contributions of its committee for political action pending the review of our policy on political contributions going forward,” the league said in a statement to The Associated on Wednesday. Press said.

Since last week’s uprising, several companies have suspended contributions to members of Congress who voted to block the election of President Joe Biden. MLB is one of the organizations to stop political contributions together.

MLB regularly donates to candidates on both sides of the aisle as part of its long-term lobbying strategy. In 2018, MLB successfully challenged Congress to pass the “Save America’s Pastime Act” so that teams could pay smaller leagues below the minimum wage. According to political records, MLB has donated more than $ 660,000 to candidates since 2016.

Individuals, including team owners, will still be allowed to make political donations.
