The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to sign free agent Jose Quintana, the left-handed starting pitcher. reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The agreement is for one year and $ 8 million, reports Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports.

Quintana, who turns 32 in a matter of days, missed almost the entire previous season after an injury he sustained while cutting and washing his thumb. He was able to return late in the season for just 10 overs, and he nodded a slightly increased speed and hit 12.

Quintana reunites with manager Joe Maddon, for whom he played with the Cubs once he was traded there in July 2017 towards the end of the 2019 season. Quintana was an All-Star in 2016 and was very good to the Cubs after the deal in 2017, but its production declined overall in the following two seasons. There were certainly spots of light, but he was not nearly the same pitcher with the Cubs as the White Sox.

In 171 overs in 2019, Quintana hit a 4.68 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and had 152 strikeouts at 46 runs.

Maybe Quintana’s stuff will play out better in 2021 when almost the entire 2020 is off. It’s hard to say, but there’s definitely a chance.

Depending on how things shake things up with Shohei Ohtani, the Angels have a perfectly acceptable six-man rotation at this point. Not necessarily in that order, but here’s a look at how it can shake things off – especially if they want to make Ohtani a one-time yard to help his transition to an outfield.

The English were 26-34 last season, and their biggest problem was playing (5.52 starter ERA). Growing out of Canning, more jobs for Barria and the addition of Quintana – along with everything they get from Ohtani – is where they need to improve in 2021.
