That accusation in the Senate was hard to swallow, with 43 Republicans voting to acquit Trump of the uprising done in his name by people waving his flag. Even more worthy was Senator Mitch McConnell’s speech afterwards – blaming Trump for the wannabe coup minutes after he voted to oust him.
“The most outspoken remarks for me were the statements of Mitch McConnells and Rob Portmans and Marco Rubios after they voted to acquit Donald Trump and basically said, ‘Well, you know, the whole coup was pretty bad and I wished you would not have tried to do so. And I wish a policeman would not die. And you know, he made some bad choices. But you know, I had no choice, ” said Tim Miller, lead author for The bulwark, Molly Jong-Fast tells about the latest issue of The New Abnormal.
But of course, McConnell and his crew done has a choice. The House charged Trump on Jan. 13. The Senate decided to take a vacation rather than take up the matter immediately. And once the holidays were over and Biden was sworn in, they decided, against all reason and precedents, that a former official like Trump could not be convicted in any way.
“To Mitch McConnell, like, ‘I really wanted to do this, but …’ Bullshit. The only reason you did not do this was because of you. This is bile. Give me a hundred [militia-friendly Rep.] Lauren Boberts – who’s too stupid to know it was bad, or Ted Cruzes – who’s a sociopath – about Mitch McConnell, and tries to tell me he has feelings about it. Give me a break, ‘says Tim.
Also in the program: Rep. Andy Kim tells Molly what it’s like to be the rare Democrat who represents a Trumpy district. Molly gives an update on the Lincoln Project situation. And Tim continues with McConnell.
‘I know many listeners will think that Mitch McConnell does not have a soul at all, and that is understandable. But he actually has a flicker of one. He does love the Senate, you know, ‘adds Tim. And he wanted to be able to tell it in his weird way about Mitch McConnell. And that’s what actually makes it worse … Do not try to remember me. You had the opportunity to do something you did not do. You made the loop. You took care on the side of the rebels. ‘
Miller says: ‘What we saw on Saturday was a Republican party that had an opportunity to be a cowardly coward after five years, who at every opportunity passed for Donald Trump, could finally put the interest in his heart and says: ‘We do not need you anymore. We do not tolerate it. And we want to move forward, even if it takes a little pain. “And 43 of them said, ‘No.’ ‘
