Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley’s wife lodges criminal charges over protests outside the couple’s home

(KY3) – Erin Hawley, the wife of US Senator Josh Hawley, in Missouri, filed a criminal charge last month against an organizer of a protest outside the couple’s home in Virginia, ABC News reported.

According to ABC News, the individual was charged with a crime of illegal protest, but not with the threats or vandalism, as the criminal charge alleges.

Hawley’s office told ABC News the complaint was filed in a court in Fairfax County, Virginia. Under Virginia state law, any citizen can file a criminal complaint and file a subpoena, though a local magistrate must find enough ‘probable cause’ to issue one.

Hawley was the first U.S. senator to announce his intention to challenge Electoral College-certified election results. On the evening of January 6, he objected to the election results in Arizona and Pennsylvania, a challenge that continued after a riot at the U.S. Capitol while Congress worked to ratify votes.

Although the objections did not change the results for either state, it did delay the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.

Sen Hawley recently discussed the riot of the capital and other topics in a one-on-one interview with KY3 News.
