Parts of Wyoming and Nebraska are being warned under storms while warnings and advice about the winter storm apply to other parts of the region, CNN meteorologist Tyler Mauldin said.
The system will bring heavy rainfall of about 4 centimeters across the Middle East for a period of 72 hours before moving slowly to the East Coast next week, bringing with it wet days.
Blizzard Conditions
Snow through the central parts of the US is expected to push up on Saturday, but will probably only reach its peak on Sunday, Mauldin said.
Denver can see up to 2 feet of snow, with the Front Range Mountains and Foothills possibly up to 4 feet. The highest elevations in southeastern Wyoming could see more than 4 feet of snow.
This area is no stranger to March’s snowfall. In fact, March is the snowiest month of the year in parts of Colorado and Wyoming. In Denver, each of the top 10 snowstorms amounts to more than a foot of snow. This year can be added to the list.
On Sunday, the severe storms will push east to Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee.
Rain threatens floods
Flood warnings are also a major concern for this system in the Middle East.
Since some rivers are near the flood stage, the expected heavy rain can take the rivers to dangerous levels.
Floods are also a threat on Sunday, especially in parts of Missouri, Kansas and Illinois.
Other states – such as Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Indiana – could also see flooding, especially if multiple storms hit the same places.
Total rainfall is expected to be within the 2- to 4-inch range through Sunday, but some isolated spots could be more than 6 inches.
