Military boy comes home to surprise police sergeant mother for holiday

A military officer recently returned home to surprise his mother, a police sergeant, just in time for the holiday. Private second class Daeveon Oliver and St. Petersburg, Fla., Police Sergeant Samora Church has joined Fox & Friends after their heartwarming reunion.

“I was ecstatic. I was very happy to see him. I did not think I would see him until after the first of the year,” Church told Fox & Friends on Monday.

After military officials approved his request to return home, Oliver said members of his family and supervisors at Church police helped create the surprise.

“I called my aunt so she could pick me up from the airport,” Oliver said. “She was the only person at home at the time, and that was one of the most important factors that helped me improve the surprise.”

With the help of his aunt, Oliver surprised his grandmother the night of his arrival. Oliver’s grandmother then called the church overseers to start the plan.

“My grandmother, she got hold of the lieutenants so we could draw up this plan to say that someone at the bottom has a complaint,” Oliver said.

When Church responded to the ‘complaint’, her son was just waiting there and waiting.

“She’s going downstairs, she’s going to the double doors, and I’m waiting around the corner,” Oliver said. “I was like, ‘Officer, I have a problem,’ and it’s then, of course, that she’s just melting there.”

Church said that although she understands that Oliver is doing important work in the military, she is happy to have her son at home for the holidays.

“It meant everything,” Church said. “I have two younger children and they miss their brother like crazy, just like I miss him like crazy.”

“Having all my pieces back together meant everything to me,” she added.
