Mike Tyson calls Hulu’s unauthorized biopic series ‘cultural abuse’

Mike Tyson is unhappy about a biopic series about his life heading to Hulu.

The streamer announced Thursday that he has given the green light to a limited series of 8 sections titled, “Iron Mike,” a program that will describe the box icon’s life.

The announcement did not suit Tyson, 54, who posted a statement on social media urging fans to “#BoycottHulu.”

“The announcement by Hulu to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, though unfortunate, is not surprising,” he began in the caption on Instagram. “This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is an excellent example of how Hulu’s corporate greed has led to this tone-deaf cultural misuse of the Tyson life story.”

Tyson pointed out that the announcement was made during Black History Month, which “confirms Hulu’s concern about dollars over respect for black story rights”.

“Hollywood needs to be more sensitive to black experiences, especially after everything that happened in 2020,” the athlete continued. “The actual Mike Tyson-approved story is in development and will be announced in the coming days.”

In addition, he said that the pursuit’s pursuit ‘can no longer be inappropriate or tone deaf’.

He went on to say that the project was one of Hollywood’s “tone-deafening efforts for diversity and inclusion”, adding that they were behind closed doors. [Hulu] stealing stories from the Black community. ‘

He doubled his sentiments on Twitter.

Hulu says the series, based on ‘I, Tonya’, screenwriter Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie, will ‘explore the wild, tragic and controversial life and career behind one of the most polarizing figures in sports culture – heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. ‘

It is currently unclear which project Tyson will release more information on in the ‘coming days’, although a biopic of the athlete is on the verge with Jamie Foxx in the lead role. It is also currently unclear whether Tyson is involved in the biopic.

Reps for Hulu did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
