The Braves will close the right hand Mike Soroka for two weeks after suffering a shoulder injury at their alternative site on Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com was among those to sign up. Soroka also recovered from a torn Judge Achilles tendon and did not strike in the majors this year.
While Soroka has no structural damage in his shoulder, the Braves will have to wait a while longer until he turns again. Soroka thrives with the team in its only full season, 2019, in which he throws a 2.68 ERA over 174 2/3 overs en route to an All-Star berth. But he could not build on that due to last year’s injury, which started limiting him to three. He has not taken the hill in the big country since August 3, 2020.
With Soroka not ready for the season, the Braves opened the year with Max Fried, Charlie Morton, Ian Anderson and Drew Smyly as the top four in their rotation. Fifth option Huascar Ynoa threw five pointless innings in a win over the Nationals on Wednesday.
