Genshin Impact has become very popular since its launch last year. The game gets its next major update, the 1.4 update on March 17, and it will add a new character Rosaria, new items, weapons, and more.
Players are very excited for the upcoming update, as well as the updates out there, as miHoYo will be releasing an update every six weeks. In the midst of it all, there was one problem that bothered players a lot. A large number of players have been attacked by hackers recently, and they have lost access to their accounts, or their accounts have been completely destroyed. This has made the community anxious because many players are reluctant to even participate in miHoYo’s own official events and think it could be a phishing link.

The community has been asking for two-factor authentication for some time, but we have not received an update from miHoYo about it. Now miHoYo has finally issued a statement on the ongoing hacks. Many believed that there was a data leak at the end of miHoYo, but this does not appear to be the case according to the statement. Here is the translated version of the statement posted in the Genshin Thailand Group (thanks to u / uijbg).
Thank you for contacting us. Currently, the developer is discussing the improvement of the security system. From the information we currently have, we have very low security and we have no sign that it is leaking. Most players hacked, and [sic] mostly because they provided information to the fake website. We hope the traveler does not go to the fake website. We will also increase the security of accounts. Please wait for the new updates.

Which does not imply this increased security, but it is speculated that 2FA would be the most logical option here. Given the rate at which accounts are being hacked, we can expect this soon.
