Miguel Díaz-Canel was appointed as the new First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in place of Raúl Castro

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, replaces Raúl Castro as First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party this Monday, during the quarter and final day of the VIII Congress of Political Formation.

“Electo Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of #Cuba in the # 8voCongresoPCC”, announced the party on its Twitter account at the end of the election of the delegates of this political organization.

In the presidency of the country since 2018, Díaz-Canel tomará así las riendas del poder absolut de pais, as in his day the work Fidel, failed in 2016, and Raúl, and were converted in the first civilian who will lead the party, in which he developed all his career.

Castro will extend the relay to a new generation encapsulated by President Diaz-Canel, 60 years old.

A total of 300 delegates coming from all over Iceland, representing 700,000 militants, voted the direct and secret way of voting for the Central Committee, integrated by 114 members. The new committee will announce on Monday the conformity of the Politburo, currently 17 integrators, and the dome of the party.

“The existence in Cuba of a single party has always been and will always be the focus of one’s campaigns,” Castro said in his speech. “This unity must take care of itself and we will accept the division between revolutionaries and false precepts of the mayor of democracy”, added.
