Minecraft Earth, the Pokémon Go-like spin-off of the blockchain franchise, shuts down on June 30, 2021.
Mojang made the announcement this afternoon, saying that today’s new version is the latest.
With the latest update, Mojang has made various changes to make the game easier to play – and specifically easier to play at home.
As of today, all real-money transactions have been shut down, premium ruby costs have been reduced, the time requirements for production and smelting have been broken down and all remaining completed content for the game has been added.
A new set of character creator items is also granted to anyone who logs in from now until the last day of the app.
After June 30, the app can no longer be played and the player’s data will be deleted.
People who have spent money on the game’s ruby premium currency will get Minecoins, the currency used in Minecraft’s main market. Anyone who has spent money also gets a free copy of Minecraft Bedrock edition.
“We want to say a moment of thanks to all the players and creators who are offering new adventures, crowds and free items in the game to enjoy the community as we finalize our timeline for the downfall of the game,” Mojang said.
“Your feedback and creations have taken this game to a whole new level, from the regular building challenges you absolutely destroyed to the incredible buildings you shared on social media. We are eternally grateful for the amazing talent in Minecraft “Community. It was not an easy decision, and we do everything in our power to make sure you get the best out of Minecraft Earth before it goes down.”
Minecraft Earth was a big project for Mojang, and although it never came close to the heights of Pokémon Go, it feels like it came much faster than expected. Clearly, the world in which Minecraft Earth was created, beta-tested, and finally released in 2019 is no longer the world we are now.
