Microsoft sells Xbox Mini Fridge to Twitter Victory

Xbox Mini Fridge You Can Buy Soon – Image Credit: Microsoft

A few weeks ago, Team Xbox shared a bar fridge with a mini-Xbox that, as you might think, everyone wanted to buy one – myself included. Spread a Twitter poll and a bunch of votes later, you’ll be able to buy one soon, but we do not know all the details yet.

How it turned out is that Twitter marketing is a ‘March madnessa style of branding that uses Twitter and the finale comes down to Xbox vs Skittles. Both brands are popular on Twitter and therefore the battle to get the most votes begins: it was a simple vote per user and the brand with the most votes would win after 24 hours.

Skittles offered to bring back the lime scent for green, but Xbox mainly used their large number of followers to increase their votes, but after nearly 200,000 votes, the score was tied.

Because I currently want an Xbox refrigerator, Microsoft did not publicly plan to launch it, I tweeted to Aaron Greenberg that Microsoft’s against Skittles’ offers a lime green flavoring with an offer to officially sell the Xbox mini refrigerators if they win.

Greenberg responds a few minutes later with ‘accepting challenge’ and does not make it official for long that Microsoft would build the bar fridge if they won the poll.

Fast forward to this morning and Xbox was able to achieve the victory with a very slim voting margin, but a victory is a victory and so Xbox will be offering the fridges for sale somewhere in the future – we do not have a timeline for release quite yet .

When it all happened, it was my assumption that Microsoft was going to offer the bar fridges for sale because of how fast it came together on Twitter last night. You are usually not committed to putting something into production without a bit of legwork to get it right, align the financing and all the other business aspects that need to take place before making such an announcement, but I was wrong.

After Xbox won the poll, Greenberg confirmed that it was my tweet (above) that made the ball spin to make it happen. So if you’re taking a cool drink out of your upcoming fridge, think of me … or not, but anyway, a fun story to share.
