Microsoft used an ad for its Surface Pro 7 to pack the MacBook Pro during Sunday’s NFL Championship. The ad, a sort of reversal of “I’m a Mac” ads from the mid to late 2000s, evokes Apple’s reluctance to include a touch screen with its laptops.
The ad follows specifically Apple’s touch bar, with an actor in the ad exclaiming, “why can’t they give me a whole touch screen.”
We suspect this is because Apple wants you to buy an iPad.
Unfortunately for Surface, the ad has a high dislike rate on YouTube. It seems that Apple fans are not too happy to be called by Microsoft. Unfortunately, comments have been disabled so you can not read the MacBook fans shooting at the laptop maker who mocked them.
As for the touchscreen of the MacBook Pro, rumors have started spreading that the company is planning to kill the dazzling OLED screen. If this is true, it confirms that consumers did not find much use of the touch bar.
Oddly enough, Microsoft’s ad claims that the Surface Pro is a better gaming device than the MacBook Pro. While this may be true on paper, as the Windows game library is much larger than on MacOS, it’s suddenly to support the Surface as a gaming device.
The current Surface Pro 7 uses tenth generation Intel Core processors. The integrated Intel UHD graphics are far from a gaming power station. According to our sister publication Laptop Mag, the 10th generation UHD graphics can barely operate a seven year old game like Grand Theft Auto V. But we will have to wait to get our hands on it before we know how it really piles up.
Of course, Microsoft has a price advantage. The MacBook Pro retails for $ 1,299, while the Core i5 Surface with keyboard and pen starts at $ 890. Granted, the MacBook Pro does come with Apple’s new star M1 chip.
