While millions of players are still struggling to find a retailer that is a Xbox X Series in stock, those who already have their hands on the device may have noticed that their controllers do not stay connected to their consoles. Microsoft now acknowledges the problem and promises to fix it.
For many Xbox Series X users, controllers disconnect from the console may appear random or sporadic. In in other cases it occurs while playing a specific game, which some (including our own review editor Alex Cranz) has attributed to to interfere with their wireless home network.
But for anyone who has spent some time Microsoft Support Forums or threads like this on Reddit, it’s clear that the Xbox Series X’s difficulty maintaining a connection with its controllers is not an isolated issue. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem. In a statement provided to the edge, a Microsoft spokesman said: “We know that some gamers may experience a break with their new Xbox Wireless Controllers, and our teams are actively working on a solution to be included in a future update.”
The challenge for Microsoft is that the controllers that disconnect from the console occur in a few different situations manners. For some people, the controller will simply not stay connected to the console, while for others it appears that the controller is well synchronized, even though the console does not register any input or push of a button. And in other cases it seems that the disconnected controllers are a much more common issue when titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Alex Cranz said the problem can be solved by removing the batteries from the controller and replacing them (essentially) switch the device off and on again). Unfortunately, in the first place it is not clear what caused the disconnection, and although Microsoft said investigating, there is currently no timetable for when a new patch or correction may be available.
The good news is that if you’re a computer user suffering from the Xbox Series Controller connected to Bluetooth from a Windows computer, Microsoft has already released a patch via Windows Update For that.
So for someone out there who wondered why their Xbox Series X controller was randomly cut off from their console, you at least know that this is a real problem. HMicrosoft may soon find a solution.
