Microsoft fixes serious NTFS corruption error in Windows 10 … but there is a problem

Windows 10 laptop

About a month and a half ago, we reported a serious bug in Windows 10 that could be used to corrupt the contents of an NTFS disk. With Microsoft’s response, it was OSR security researchers who had to manufacture a third-party patch.

But now Microsoft has acted and finally made an official solution to the bug. Unfortunately, this is not all good news, as the solution is currently not available to everyone.

Although the company did not advertise the fact, it appears that the recently released Windows 10 build 21322 corrupts the bug on the disk. The error is due to problems with the $ i30 NTFS attribute, which means that access to the path c: : $ i30: $ bitmap will cause corruption corruption – though it should be reversible with the chkdsk tool.

As Bleeping Computer reports, if you try to access this problematic path in build 21322, you will see a message that reads: “The directory name is invalid”.

The bad news here is that build 10322 of Windows 10 has only been made available to Insiders on the Dev channel. It’s hard to say whether Microsoft will release a separate patch for the earlier version of the operating system, or we will have to wait until this development program progresses to the main release channel.
