Microsoft finally tests dual-screen support with Xbox Game Pass on Surface Duo

Microsoft has released an update to the Xbox Game Pass Beta app that supports dual-screen devices such as the Surface Duo. Games with dedicated touch screen controls (like Minecraft Dungeons) are supported, and it’s a dream come true to have a portable Xbox console in your pocket.

On Surface Duo, the game itself will display on the top screen and the controls in the bottom screen, turning the Surface Duo into a temporary gamepad. Developers can customize the on-screen controls specifically for their games, and some games may have different touchscreen buttons or layouts.

The ergonomics really make games feel like on Surface Duo, because your fingers don’t get it like in the real game. Some games even support motion control with the Surface Duo’s built-in gyro. For example, if you play Gears 5, you can look around by physically moving your device around.

Microsoft teased these kinds of features when it first launched the Surface Duo in 2019, but unfortunately it was not yet ready for launch. It’s great to see that the feature is now available as part of the Xbox Game Pass Beta app. Hopefully it will roll out to the main Game Pass app soon. what are your thoughts Let us know in the comments.
