Microsoft announced a bunch of new features later this month that will come to the Edge browser. One of the new features is vertical tabs, which according to the company of Redmond facilitates the management of tabs.
The vertical tabs were initially announced last March and allow users to move their cluttered tabs to a window with a single click. The feature is ideal for those who constantly have dozens of tabs open at the same time, because by sliding them to the side, you can clearly see the tabs and controls of the tabs.
Microsoft has said that the browser’s new vertical tab feature is in line with sleep tabs, which Microsoft introduced earlier this year. The latter feature apparently increases battery life by using an average of 26% less CPU compared to a non-sleeper, according to Microsoft.
Microsoft Edge also gets a new startup feature, which will reduce the time it takes to open the browser. Launched later this month, Microsoft claims the feature could improve boot time by as much as 41%. The feature automatically activates when available, “and you can access your browser settings menu to further customize Microsoft Edge.”
Bing also gets some love in the latest update from Microsoft Edge. One way Microsoft Bing can improve is by dynamically customizing the search results page. For example, if you search for recipes, you can see better footage and other information like calories per serving. This information will make it easier for users to find what they are looking for. The carousel experience has also been enhanced, with intuitive glide-over experiences.
Meanwhile, Microsoft said Bing will gather information for more detailed topics and display it in a way that is visually appealing. If you search for a topic like “Kenya” or “giraffes”, Bing will combine the text and visual results into an infographic-inspired experience.
Ultimately, Microsoft Edge will make it easier to access and manage your history without losing the context of the page you are on. Clicking on the history opens it as a drop-down list from the toolbar instead of opening the full page in the settings. The browser also tests a Shared Links feature (via Windows latest), which allows users to quickly find links they have copied or shared.
All of these new features will arrive in Microsoft Edge next month.
