Microsoft today launches its new Microsoft Mesh platform for mixed reality, and part of the announcement includes a short demonstration of Pokémon Go runs on the HoloLens 2 headset. Niantic has partnered with Microsoft to bring this proof-of-concept version of Pokémon Go, demonstrate what may be possible for the game in the future.
The demo shows how HoloLens users can Pokémon in nature and perform it berries before a typical gym fight with another player. There is a menu that HoloLens users tap to access different parts Pokémon Go, but Niantic emphasizes that it is not yet a dedicated app or ready for consumers.
“While this demo is not intended for consumers, it provides an early look at the future development of software and hardware,” said John Hanke, CEO and founder of Niantic. “We just scratched the surface. We know that the years ahead must be filled with important achievements that will serve as points in AR’s journey to become a life-changing computer platform. ”
Hanke appeared on Microsoft’s virtual Ignite stage today as part of the company’s Mesh launch. Microsoft Mesh is the software maker’s new mixed reality platform for developers, powered by Azure. It’s a collaborative platform that allows everyone to share virtual experiences on different devices, and Microsoft hopes it will encourage developers to create more mixed reality applications.
