The disruption also affects Microsoft sites, such as the Tech Community site, as users are unable to log in to the site.
“Due to the issues that Azure AAD is currently facing, we are currently experiencing issues in the Microsoft Tech community with login and authentication. This will result in users not being able to log in and users already logged in having unexpected errors as session timeout, “states a Microsoft Tech Community Manager.
Microsoft acknowledged the outage in Microsoft 365 incident report MO244568, which states that the outage initially affected Microsoft Teams, but now affects other services.
“Initial reports indicate that the primary impact is on Microsoft Teams; however, other services, including Exchange Online and Yammer, are also affected.”
“We are investigating a possible issue and see if it has an impact on your organization. We will provide an update within 30 minutes,” the interruption report said.
The widespread disruptions that have affected Microsoft’s online services are actually the result of an Azure Active Directory problem that prevents users from authenticating to Microsoft 365, Exchange, Online, and Teams disruptions.
“As of approximately 19:15 UTC on March 15, 2021, a subset of customers may experience issues in Microsoft services, including Microsoft Teams, Office and / or Dynamics, Xbox Live, and the Azure Portal,” reads the Azure status page.
Microsoft shares updates on their Microsoft 365 status Twitter account, with the latest update indicating that the interruption is caused by a change to their authentication system.
We have identified an issue with a recent change to an authentication system. We are updating the update to reduce the impact, which we expect will take approximately 15 minutes. Additional information can be found at https://t.co/AEUj8uAGXl or under MO244568 if available.
