Michigan Restaurants Reopen Indoor Dining Room: What to Know

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. Monday is a big day for restaurants in Michigan – after nearly three months, restaurants can reopen for indoor dining.

However, they can only have 25% and have a curfew at 10pm.

This is a day that Michiganders waited patiently and not so patiently – the return of personal eating.

“We have been preparing for this all week and we are very hopeful that we will go in a direction that will work for us,” said Hanna Carter, manager of Pickles & Rye Deli in West Bloomfield.

Restaurants only have 25% capacity, but Carter said that would be no problem.

“We spread it out pretty nicely with every other booth,” Carter said. “And we have all our tables ready.”

However, Steve Goldberg, owner of Stage Deli, said the crew would wait a little longer before reopening the doors to the dining area.

‘The dining room for a Jewish deli is little more than just food. It’s about energy, it’s about spirit. It’s about camaraderie, it’s about neighbors, “said Goldberg. “And with 25% occupancy and masks needed at the table, it’s very difficult to get the energy.”

Either way, the restaurant will continue to maintain services and restraint services until they are truly ready for more about an effective return to normal.

“As things facilitate, we will visit and reopen if appropriate,” Goldberg said.

It is not only the customers who are ready to go back to the meals at the table, but also the employees who come back.

“We’ve built our staff,” Carter said. “Of course we had to get smaller, but we could reach out now and we definitely joined more people.”
