Health officials in Michigan reported two-day 4,536 new cases of coronavirus and 47 new deaths on Monday, January 11, following an interruption in reporting on COVID-19 data on Sunday.
The state averaged 3,071 new cases per day last week compared to 3,631 three weeks ago. Similarly, it reported 103 new deaths per day over the past seven days, up from 111 three weeks ago.
Since the onset of the pandemic, Michigan has reported 234,618 confirmed cases and 13,401 confirmed deaths, according to data from the Department of Health and Human Services. There were also 44,064 probable cases and 791 probable deaths that were not confirmed by a PCR test.

Seventy-seven of the 83 counties reported new cases on Monday, led by Wayne with 906, Oakland with 583 and Macomb with 378. Other counties in the top 10 include Kent (356), Genesee (172), Washtenaw ( 158), Ottawa (156), Saginaw (139), Livingston (121) and Kalamazoo (111).
There were 26 counties reporting new COVID-19 deaths, including Wayne and Macomb with five each, and Eaton with four. Saginaw and Monroe each added three deaths, while the provinces of Kent, Genesee, Kalamazoo, Ingham, Tuscola, Shiawassee, Isabella and Gratiot each had two deaths.

There were 2,496 patients admitted to the hospital with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 as of Monday – a decrease of 2,480 such hospitalizations on Friday. Among the patients, 485 are in the ICU and 272 in ventilators.
Of the 40,334 diagnostic tests processed on Sunday, 7.96% returned positive for COVID-19. The test total was higher than the seven-day average (34,100 tests per day), while the positivity rate of Sunday was lower than the 9.9% of last week.
