Michigan reported 2,706 new cases of coronavirus and 222 deaths on January 2, although all but 15 deaths were due to a review of death certificates.
Among the deaths, 207 were from a review of important records. The state regularly adds deaths due to the important controls in daily totals, and gives notice when it happens.
Michigan has now reported 519,082 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began in March and 13,354 deaths.
The percentage of positive tests has decreased over the past few days and was 8.27 percent on Friday. The state received results from 51,995 tests.
The positivity rate on January 5 was about 10.5 percent.
The latest hospital data show that 2,452 people are in Michigan hospitals with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19, lower than the previous day’s total of 2,480 people and the nearly 2,700 patients in hospitals at the beginning of the week.
Of those in the hospital, 517 adults are in intensive care units and 294 people are in ventilators.
The latest data on recoveries shows that 415,079 people recovered from Friday.
A recovery is defined as someone still living 30 days after the onset of COVID-19 symptoms.
