According to the CDC, the largest number of variant cases were detected in Michigan and Florida. According to the MDHHS, the largest number of the British variant B117 was found in the densely populated areas.

More than half of the B117 variants identified came from an outbreak in the Michigan Department of Corrections. This is another reason why Michigan has more identified cases.

The B117 variant has been found in 31 provinces in Michigan. It is safe to assume that it is widespread in the community. The concern now is that this could be part of the increase in cases that Michigan is currently seeing.

Other variants are being monitored, but so far only one case of the South African B1351 variant has been found in Michigan.

So far, the vaccines seem effective against the variants.
