Michigan delegates rescue abandoned 4-month-old left in forest

Delegates in Michigan on Wednesday morning found an abandoned 4-month-old baby in the woods after responding to reports of an upset, fickle woman slamming doors in the area.

The baby boy was “in a hypothermic state” – but was still breathing – with his face down when delegates found him in Oakland County. Rescuers took him to a hospital.

Two locals called 911 to report charged interactions with the woman. They allegedly said they were being chased by ‘someone with guns’ around 8:30 p.m.

When police arrived, the woman was gone – but staff at a nearby Waldon Middle School also called a “wild woman encounter.”

Deputies interviewed 37-year-old Orion Township and told her she had a son.

Investigators said they saw blackberries on the woman’s pants – a clear idea that she was in the woods, and began searching an area between the school, neighbors and the woman’s own home.

Thirteen group cars responded, including a K-9 unit, and after a 30-minute search, they found the boy “cold and wet but breathing.”

“Fortunately, delegates were able to determine that a baby was missing, which caused immediate great reaction and search, and they were able to locate the child,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. “Their quick work avoided an unspeakable tragedy.”

The sheriff of Oakland County said authorities are not sure how long the boy spent alone in the woods.

Investigators suspected in the incident that they had abused drugs and asked for a warrant for the arrest of the mother.

A photo of the rescue shows a deputy and other first responders treating the little lazy boy on a grass field. He was found in wet clothes, but authorities replaced them with warm blankets and administered first aid.

He was expected to spend the night in hospital and was under the supervision of child protection services, according to the sheriff’s office.
