Michigan basketball game postponed in Penn State

The Michigan men’s basketball team’s game in Penn State, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Penn State program.

Penn State announced Wednesday night that it has “suspended all team-related activities due to positive COVID-19 results among its Tier 1 staff.”

According to the NCAA, Tier 1 individuals include student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and physical therapists, medical staff, and equipment staff.

The Nittany Lions have not played since December 30th. They postponed Sunday’s game against Wisconsin as well as Tuesday’s game against Ohio State due to COVID concerns. And now they have announced that their next two games – Michigan on Saturday and Rutgers on Tuesday – will be postponed.

The schools involved will, according to Penn State, work with the Big Ten Conference to identify options for rescheduling.

The Big Ten provided flexibility when it announced the league schedule. Michigan’s two “goodbye” periods are between January 23 and January 29 and between February 22 and February 26. Both correspond to the Penn State time period.

Michigan beat Penn State 62-58 at home on Dec. 13.

The Wolverines will host Minnesota on Wednesday night, with a tipoff scheduled for 20:37 ET. Michigan will host Wisconsin Tuesday.
