Miami Mayor ‘open’ to Elon Musk’s underground tunnel proposal

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez told FOX Business on Friday that he was “definitely” open to having a conversation with Tesla founder Elon Musk about bringing an underground tunnel to his city through The Boring Company.

Musk, now the richest person in the world with a net worth of $ 184 billion, tweeted that he spoke with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, R. earlier this month.

“If governor and mayor want to do this, we will do it,” Musk wrote.

Suarez told “Varney & Co.” said host Stuart Varney that the fact that the governor and the mayors of another political party are in line with his vision “means that all the ingredients are in place to be able to have a very comprehensive discussion on this issue.”

His remarks come as numerous people go to the Sunshine States to take advantage of the economic incentives, including lower taxes.

Suarez said in an interview with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade that his city is thriving.

‘I think the fact that they pay excise duty elsewhere, the fact that the cost of living is significantly higher, the fact that the governments do not want them there and blame them for all the social problems in their city, and the fact that they are basically completely limited and unable to open and that there is no quality of life. “People are flocking to our city,” he told Kilmeade.

Suarez said the construction of a tunnel could potentially solve the transportation problem, except that it has a positive impact on the environment.

Miami-Dade already has an underground tunnel, but it’s just one mile long and has a hefty $ 1 billion price tag. Suarez believes Musk can use his project as a ‘very cost-effective’ prototype for other cities and countries around the world.

“It’s … the beauty of the private sector … They can do such things and be innovative and creative in how they structure things,” he said.
