Metro 2033 can now stay on Steam, and the rest of the series is on sale

Metro 2033 was a diamond in the rough when it was released in 2010. It was in the subway under a post-apocalyptic Moscow and was atmospheric, gloomy and buggy. It’s now free to hold if you grab it before 15:00 PT / 18:00 GMT on March 15th.

Developers 4A Games made it available as part of the series’ ten-year anniversary, along with short discounts on the rest of the series. Last year’s Metro Exodus, the third game in the series, is 66% off at £ 11.89.

Note that what is offered here for free is the original 2010 version, although patched, is not as polished as the Metro 2033 Redux version released in 2014. The version added features from the game’s sequel, Metro Last Light, including improved AI. Metro 2033 Redux was also offered for free via the Epic Games Store in December, while it currently costs £ 3 each at Last Light Redux.

£ 3 is not a lot of money for a better version of the game, but hey, free is still free. If you need more information on exactly what the pros and cons may be from the original, Alec’s review is a good summary:

I like Metro 2033, but I wish I liked it. I can not help but want it to be a curious matter to find out, as with Stalker. This is one of the few post-Half-Life 2 games that really understands and responds to why people have dug so much, and despite the furious checkpoint thing, it’s just blunt and pleasantly fiddly enough that it’s in the first place feels like a computer game.

You can now grab Metro 2033 from Steam.
