It’s more than a decade ago that Mercedes-Benz no longer manufactured the venerable SLR McLaren, but the V8 dome with a boost has never left a few hearts.
As an example: Georgi Bozhkov, which proposes another SLR McLaren concept and posted unofficial versions via its Behance page. While his previous work from last year showed us a modern version of the Mercedes-dominated design, Bozhkov’s latest version of the supercar leans more on the McLaren side – and it has its engine behind the seats. The version above shows the obvious – Bozhkov incorporated McLaren’s design language into a pre-engine layout (or so we thought). You see the typical McLaren style on the front and the headlights, while the roof hatch, which is available for making Macs via MSO and the Senna, has been added. It is our first idea that the engine on this version is behind, despite the long-hood short-deck shape.
On the side, we can not deny that there is a Dodge Viper atmosphere going on, but it will be hard to miss the signature slats of the front fenders, reminiscent of the original SLR McLaren. There are also three-pointed star emblems above the slats, which is probably the only thing Mercedes has in this car.
At the rear, further confirmation of a rear engine layout can be seen on the covered bonnet and the exhaust pipes high on the tail. This is one of McLaren’s signature setup, with the exhaust passages sitting next to the engine to shorten the wiring, ergo, and keep the total weight of the vehicle.
If this whole hood, rear engine shape does not make sense to you, do not worry, because it is only an imagination. But the hope of returning an SLR McLaren is not a bad thing at all, so here it is.
