GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Meijer plans to host a series of vaccination clinics across the state this week as part of an effort to administer 25,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Walker-based dealer said in a news release that residents 65 and older who register with Meijer are eligible for a dose of vaccine. Meijer launched its vaccination program in partnership with the state on January 15, and since then it has delivered 20,000 doses of the vaccine in Michigan and 30,000 doses in general.
“We are very proud of the role our stores and pharmacies continue to play in this tremendous effort to vaccinate people against COVID-19,” Rick Keyes, Meijer’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “As a pharmacy partner for the state of Michigan and the federal government, we have been able to receive vaccines and quickly administer doses to thousands of people in our communities, usually within 72 hours.”
Frank Guglielmi, spokesman for the company, said Meijer plans to offer 70 vaccination clinics in 40 of its stores this week. The vaccine is only available by appointment, and Meijer does not disclose which of its stores offer clinics.
“These are not start-up clinics,” he said. “People who have registered will be notified of their appointment and which store. Some stores have clinics over two days, and some stores will have one-day clinics. ”
Meijer says the aggressive vaccine scheme this week was made possible by partnerships with several provinces and cities in Michigan, along with doses received from the state of Michigan and the Centers for Disease Control. “
