LONDON – Just in case you were wondering, Meghan still hates settling in Buckingham Palace and feels indignant because they deprived her of her voice, agency and autonomy when she and Harry were still part of the official royal family.
How else to interpret an extraordinary statement from Meghan over the weekend in which she accuses shadowy forces in the palace of changing her name on Archie’s birth certificate?
On the original certificate, registered on May 17, 2019, the Duchess referred to her name as “Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex”.
But 19 days later on June 5, the royal couple changed both of their names.
The name of the Duchess has been ‘corrected’ to read only ‘Her Royal Highness Duchess of Sussex’, which is some speculation as to why this happened.
A spokeswoman for the Duchess said: ‘The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by the palace, as confirmed by documents of senior officials of the palace. It was not requested by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, or by the Duke of Sussex.
‘Seeing the British tabloid and their carnival of so-called’ experts’, they chose to whip it up deceptively in a calculated ‘family snub’ and suggested that she would be strange to be anonymous on her child ‘s birth certificate, or any other legal document, would be ridiculous if it were not offensive.
‘There are many in the world; let’s focus on it rather than creating clickbait. ‘
The verb “to dictate” is, just in case you were wondering, defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as ‘to issue as an order ”or“ to impose, pronounce or specify authoritatively ”and Meghan’s use of the word in her furious statement certainly captures the sense that Meghan’s own wishes are considered irrelevant by the pen pushers in the palace that imposed the change.
It is interesting to note that the Sun on Sunday, who broke the story over the weekend, claims they contacted Meghan’s press team about the story but received no response.
It’s a good remark by Meghan’s team that the newspaper’s speculation that the name change might have been a doll at Kate Middleton’s was useless. Indeed, Tim Teeman remarked on Sunday in The Daily Beast’s weekly royal newsletter in which he wrote: “The Sun put it as a sniff against William and Kate because Kate has her name on her children’s birth certificates. The possibility that the decision was made for personal, totally non-blunt-related reasons is not raised. ”
The Sussexes’ policy of ‘zero engagement’ with British tabloids such as the Sun It seems to be guaranteed that the Sussexes’ side of the story will not be placed when written in the newspapers.
Meghan often complained that she fell silent through the palace. In an interview with the website The 19th, for example, she said: “I know what it’s like to have a voice, and also what it feels like to feel voiceless.”

It seems to be more of a warning about the inadvisability to respond to real press inquiries in a timely manner. And since Meghan and Harry have a $ 100 million deal with Netflix and a lucrative podcast deal with Spotify, it looks a bit like fighting yesterday’s war over agency denial by the palace.
