Meghan Markle reveals why she and Prince Harry are now speaking out in a new example of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Gayle King launched the video on Friday on “CBS This Morning” and said it would show why Meghan and Harry “do not feel free to speak candidly earlier.”
The clip shows Winfrey approaching the topic with Meghan: ‘I called you either February or March 2018 before the wedding and asked,’ Would you please get me an interview, ‘and you said,’ I’m sorry, this is not the right time. ‘”
“I remember the conversation very well. I’m not even allowed to have the conversation with you in person, am I? Meghan replied. ‘There had to be people from the commission [team] sitting there. ”
“There were other people in the room when I had that conversation,” Winfrey said. “You turned me down nicely and said, ‘Maybe there’s another time when the time is right. ”
The media magnate gently presses, “What’s right at this time?”

“Well, so many things. “That we are on the other side of many, many life experiences that have happened,” Meghan said. “And also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I could not say yes to then, it was not my choice.”
‘As an adult who lived a very independent life to then go to this construct, which is different from what I think people think, it’s really liberating to have in some ways the right and the privilege to be able to say, “Yes … I’m ready to talk.” ‘
Winfrey added: ‘And to say it yourself. And at this point do not need to consult with anyone. ”
The Duchess replies: ‘Yes, to be able to make a choice on your own. And just to be able to speak for yourself. ”
In another clip from the interview released earlier this week, Winfrey asked the Duchess, “How do you feel about the palace hearing you speak your truth today?”
“I do not know how they could have expected us to be silent after all this time only if there is an active role that The Firm plays in refuting falsehoods about us,” Meghan said in the teaser released on Wednesday .
“And if it’s at risk of losing things, I mean, there’s a lot lost, ‘she added.
CBS said in a statement to HuffPost earlier this month that Oprah was talking to Meghan about ‘life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work on how she handles life under intense public pressure’, during the interview.
Later in the interview, Prince Harry joins Meghan, and the two discuss “their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their growing family,” CBS said.
The two-hour broadcast will air on CBS on Sunday at 8 p.m.
