Gayle King has revealed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had a contingency plan to delay their Oprah Winfrey interview should Prince Philip’s health start the worst.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been criticized for disclosing their explosive interview with Winfrey, while the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II has been admitted to hospital for a heart attack.

King, who is friends with Winfrey and Markle, said the duke and duchess had a plan in case the Duke of Edinburgh died before the interview was released.

“Well, just so you know, they conducted the interview before Prince Phillip entered the hospital,” she explained (via People). ‘If something had not happened to him, O God, the interview would not have taken place at this particular time. But the interview was done and was scheduled before he entered the hospital. But many people have addressed it. ‘

Philip was discharged from King Edward VII Hospital in London on Tuesday after being admitted to hospital for four weeks and undergoing a heart procedure. King further explained why she believes Harry and Markle feel it is so necessary to do the interview, given the possible dire situation in which Philip finds himself.

“I think Harry and Meghan have both been through so much over the last three years and that they have really tried to work out privately. They have really tried to get help, and nothing works,” she explained. “So I think they wanted people to understand a little bit why they made the decision and what they went through, and I think they got it. Markle and Harry’s interview included several shocking revelations, such as that the former American actress had suicidal thoughts and allegedly received no help from the palace. She also claims that before the birth of her baby, there were conversations about how the family would react in public if he had dark skin.
