Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey is a cause for concern in the royal family – and especially for Prince William, according to a royal insider.
The exclusive sit-down, which will be broadcast on CBS next month, evoked memories of Princess Diana’s infamous 1995 interview with BBC host Martin Bashir.
Harry and Meghan’s announcement last year that they would be leaving the royal family drove a wedge between the two famous brothers, who apparently did not speak for months.
Even a year later, Harry, 36, and William, 38, do not believe in regular contact, the informant said.
The source added that the soon-to-be interview with Winfrey evoked memories for William of Diana, who famously told Bashir, “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit of a push” royal family.
The confirmation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s 90-minute lounge period with Winfrey, which airs on March 7, hardly comes as a surprise.
“This interview has been an open secret in the palace for months,” the insider said.
This follows a notable TV interview that Meghan (39) and Harry did in October 2019 with Tom Bradby of ITV News – during which Harry addressed his strained relationship with his older brother.
“We are definitely on different paths at the moment, but I will always be there for him and as I know, he will always be there for me,” Harry said at the time. “We do not see each other as much as before, because we are so busy, but I love him very much.”
One source underlined to The Post that the couple’s conversation with Winfrey has the potential to become explosive – as the veteran’s best friend, Gayle King, said Tuesday that “nothing is out of bounds.”
“Tom had ten minutes with Harry and Meghan,” the source said. “Oprah has 90 minutes – can you imagine what she’s going to do with it?”
The Sussexes, who moved to Montecito, California, after their dizzying split from the palace and are now expecting their second child, are not being compensated for the upcoming interview, The Post has learned.
A spokeswoman for the Oprah Winfrey Network confirmed that the couple would not collect a salary and said no donations would be made to their charities.
According to people they know, they see sitting with the iconic media maven as a chance to finally tell their truth.
