The Sunday Times recently claimed that Harry and Meghan were completely stepping down from social media, but the couple was previously known for using platforms like Instagram informally compared to other royals. Prince William and Kate Middleton presumably followed their lead and made similar changes to their own social media accounts.
According to Vanity Fair: “Just as Meghan received criticism from the British press over her use of social media and her relationship with the press, the remaining royals apparently followed her lead, from changing the names in their social media profiles to sharing personal heartfelt messages throughout the national exclusion. ”
Historically, there were on social media accounts shared by the royals, ‘messages written in the third person’ and usually photos that media had already issued.
Royal observers, however, said that changed when Harry and Meghan left Kensington Palace for Frogmore Cottage in Windsor and started their own @SussexRoyal account.
On it, Harry and Meghan post exclusive photos and often become the first source of information for events such as the birth of their son Archie.
It was also the platform that the Sussexes announced they would retire as senior royals last year.
In addition, Vanity Fair analyst Erin Vanderhoof noted that the photo captions posted on the account “showed a less formal tone and were sometimes signed by Meghan or Harry”.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have now followed a completely different path by allegedly retiring completely from social media platforms.
The Sunday Times reported that the two would no longer use platforms like Twitter, citing a source saying they were “very unlikely” to use social media in a personal way.
The couple reportedly made the decision to abandon social media because of the hatred they received online.
Last year, Meghan described the amount of abuse she received on the internet as “almost unsustainable”.
She said in an episode of the teen therapy podcast in October: “I’m told I was the most sought after person in the world in 2019, male or female.”
Meghan and Harry appear to be popular on social media, with their @SussexRoyal Instagram account earning more than one million in 2019, in less than six hours.
However, the couple have stopped using the royal bill since withdrawing from their royal duties.
They currently live in California, where they focus on their various media production offerings and charity projects.
