Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their second child.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” a spokesman for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex told Page Six on Sunday. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to be expecting their second child.”
The couple’s son, Archie, turns 2 in May.
In announcing the pregnancy news, Markle (39) and Harry (36) shared an intimate black-and-white photo showing Markle rocking her baby bump. Page Six is told the photo was taken at a distance by the couple’s longtime friend and photographer Misan Harriman.
The news comes months after Markle spoke of her “almost unbearable sadness” after suffering a miscarriage in July.
The new arrival will be the first baby of British royal descent born in the US after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ended their position as senior royals earlier this year.
After leaving their roles, they settled in a $ 14 million home in Montecito, California, which includes neighbors Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres.
Rumors of Markle’s pregnancy began to circulate late last year as her legal team demanded that her privacy case against the British newspaper Mail on Sunday be postponed on a ‘confidential’ basis.
The former ‘Suits’ actress apparently showed a bump in photos published on Page Six at the end of December, while summing it all up in a heavy parka and sweater.
Markle was praised in the New York Times last year for her brutally honest essay on pregnancy loss.
She wrote: “When I held my firstborn child, I knew I was losing my second,” and described how she saw ‘my husband’s heart break as he tried to hold the broken pieces of mine.’
Harry has already said he only wants two children, after talking about his concern for the environment and the “frightening” effects of global warming in the issue of British Vogue, hosted by his wife.
Promising to be financially independent, the Sussexes signed multi-million dollar deals with Netflix and Spotify, in the footsteps of the Obamas. Their holiday podcast is expected to air soon.
Markle is also investing – and is an angel investor in the women – owned coffee brand Clevr, which has promoted Winfrey to her 19 million Instagram followers.
